My History with IT

My interest in IT began at a very young age when my brother and I got our first gaming system for Christmas: the original Playstation. I quickly took an interest in learning how to hook up the A/V cables to the different TV’s in our house and became the family go-to for troubleshooting it. As I got a little older, I began researching different models of computers and what the components listed in the specs were. Soon I was advising my parents on why we should get a PC for our home and which model we should buy. That year for Christmas we got our first PC and I instantly fell in love with it.

When I was in middle school I saved up enough money to buy my own personal PC, and in my spare time I started disassembling an old decommissioned PC that was collecting dust in storage. I was fascinated by all the parts and mess of wires, learning the function and purpose of every component one at a time as I delved deeper into the computer case. I may have bent half the pins on the CPU (so that’s what the lever is for…), but it broadened my understanding and deepened my interest in how computers work.

My Future with IT

One of the most exciting things about the IT field is the varied scope of job opportunities that exists. Right now my goal is to find an entry level help desk or IT technician role that can provide me the skills and experience I need to kickstart my career in the industry. I also like the idea of being able to lend my own knowledge to help keep end users up and running. Eventually, I’d like to start working towards a bachelors in computer science.
